When was the last properly small lightweight rwd turbocharged car? I really hope tuners get hold of this fast. Based on what’s currently available for the 500 abarth you should be a remap away from 190bhp and a few boltons from 220 :) that’s just your basic cheapo tunes as well. I wonder how far it can be pushed...

For racing, will this car be in the same class as a Miata, or different because of the turbo?

I think I agree. The ND Miata for me sounds like a strange compromise - we’ll make a driver’s car by stripping out weight, but we’ll power it with a pencil sharpener and put it on marshmallow suspension? Also hope Fiat did their own seats, the back rest felt pretty awkward to me.

Yeah it is a bit of a car that’s built for two separate markets. I can see why they’ve done it that way, people who are interested in a proper sports car are more likely to just swap out the springs and shocks than your average hairdresser.

Don't get me wrong, I like the MX-5 and the direction it's gone, but I'm glad that there's another option with a slightly different tack...

Hmmm, you know I don’t know. Stock they’d probably be in the same autocross class I’m thinking. One’s slightly lighter, the other’s slightly more powerful. Seems like they even out.

Modified I think the game changes as without sticking a turbo on the MX-5 the gains will be much larger on the Fiat.

Needs more chassis tuning by then. If I’m gonna tune, I’ll want to keep it within the abilities of the car’s chassis.

They’ve already got one to 300bhp (360bhp race)...

I cannot wait for the Abarth Version. And some company can make a design that will transform it into an orgasmic Alfa, my tentacles would fall into her arms.

I was just wondering what it would take to transform it into an Alfa Spider.

First off a 1750TBi engine. Not been mated to a longitudinal gearbox yet, but that kind of thing has been done before so can’t be too hard.

Rear lights from a MiTo (they’re the most perfect thing about that design, just simple and elegant).

Headlights from a MiTo as well, or from a Giulietta (not sure about size here, don’t want it to be bug-eyed).

Just need a grille that isn’t so big we end up with CSL-Hommage syndrome...

I see it the other way. the 124 seems more tuned for cruising. no mention of any brembo/bilstein package or any sport package. I guess that’s what the abarth will be, but FCA hasn’t been revealing great things lately (looking at you guilia)

I did a half assed search but couldn’t find any pricing guide. Where is this going to sit relative to the Miata?

Wasn’t there a turbo miata, the Mazdaspeed MX5? Or color me ignorant... I’ve got my helmet on I’m ready.

Yeah the NB generation had a turbo Mazdaspeed version, but that was a limited run.

You can also fairly easily turbo the older MX-5s, but I think this new one will be harder than the old 'slap a low-blow turbo on and be done with it) of the NA/NBs. 14:1 compression ratio will see to that...

Gotcha... yeah I drove one but knowing the owner, I wasn’t sure if it was a factory/stock thing, or some creation of his because I don’t think I’ve ever seen another one. And wow, it was fun.

Right, that’s why I’m hoping they put in some comfier seats and didn’t mention anything about gram strategy weight savings — at least the Fiata seems to know what it is.
